Thoughts on the draft...

I was suprised that the Jets moved up to fifth to get Mark Sanchez. I'm not disappointed by any means. When I had time to reflect on the move, it actually made sense. Apparently, there was still enough of a relationship with Eric Mangini to make the trade work. And to beat it all, they got the trade up to 5 for next to nothing...a second round pick and 3 bench players.

THEY ARE BUILDING the Jets to be like the Ravens, good D, solid running game and a QB who doesn't lose the game for you. we will see if Mark Sanchez fits that bill. could be a good move. Very bad move getting rid of Chad Pennington IMO.

Whoever the Jets GM or Owner is has it going on with these two moves. Getting Favre for a year was a great move at the time, and I still think it worked out for them. He brought some energy back to that franchise that gets overlooked by the Giants. And now they have Sanchez to replace him/Pennington. I like it. Still don't like Gholston though...

Dallas had a very uneventful draft. They should have owned today since they had twelve picks. Instead they were caught constantly reaching. Jerry has always stockpiled picks, but he looks at the value of the actual pick too much, instead of the value of the player at that pick. Drafts like a businessman, not a football man. Last year's draft looks like an A+, but this one looks...just not good. That's what you get with him.

The Big Tuna has another great draft. He might be the best drafter ever. EIther him or Walsh.

The Pats wore it out this weekend too. Belicheat doesn't need Pioli, he still runs a great team.

And the Benglas had a good draft?!? WHAT!

THE Falcons are the most improved team coming out of the weekend, hands down. But the first 2 picks for the Jets could give them the best results just from the draft. I to agree that getting Favre last year did a lot more for the team that you can see in numbers and if Bret hadn't of gotten hurt the Jets were a playoff team. you could see a totally different Favre after his injury and up to that point had looked really good.

I really think that the Lions should have went OL or DE with their first pick. I think the QB's coming out next year are better than any that came out this year and the Lions would probably still have the first pick next year and even if they didn't they would have gotten a better QB than Stafford. I think if Stafford went to an established winner, ala the Steelers or Pat's and he had the chance to grow into the starting QB, the face of the team he would be a nice solid QB but for him to go and have the expectations of resurrecting a team, he isn't that kind of QB.

I was very disappointed in Big D's draft. I wanted Herman Johnson there for a while, and thought Big D would get him the way Jerruh loves big lineman. Very disappointed. Their last pick may be the best one IMO. Why the heck we drafted a kicker I have no idea.

Im starting to look at their draft, and I'm not in love with it but I don't think it is initially as bad as I thought. Read a write up on their head of the scouting dept, and he said he wanted to shake things up and bring a different type of football player to Big D. Sounded alot like words from Belicheat or Parcells mouth. I like that.

We got the kicker to stand near Greg Ellis and Patrick Crayton so everytime they open their big mouths he can kick em in the balls. lol. Seriously though, Buehler benched 25 reps of 225, that's more than Ray Maualuga, Michael Oher, Eugene Monroe, and its the same as Aaron Curry. He ran a 4.56, better than his fellow linebackers Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews. Maybe we aren't even gonna use him as a kicker. I'm guessing the truth is that we are gonna carry two kickers to every game this year though. Folk is awful at kicking the ball off, and I think Jerry is trying to buy his defense a longer field.

Brandon Williams could be underrated. He had more sacks than Brian Orakpo in the same Big 12 going up against the same competition, and even the guy from Baylor who went second. I can see him working in Wade's D, and maybe if he has a good camp we can get Ellis outta town.

Manuel Johnson could return punts I think. He's very gifted. Hamlin could be a huge playmaker at safety, and we're lucky he fell to us there. Jason Williams is only 20 I believe, and he seems to have freakish talent. He says that nobody realizes the talent he has, and he has a chip on his shoulder now wanting to prove everyone wrong. Jerruh says he reminds him of a certain other guy in Dallas who wears number 94...

Which reminds me. The best part of this draft is Dallas isn't going to be paying these guys much. And Ware's new big contract should be coming in before the weekend. I like it more everytime I look at it.

There wasn't really a marquee guy at DE to take at one overall, and nobody wanted to trade for the pick. I agree an OT would have been a great choice. I really expected them to take Curry. He was willing to take a cheaper deal. Put him with Ernie Sims and Julian Peterson and your LB corps is already one of the best. Stafford, I feel for the guy. He might have been the most talented QB in the draft, but it might be safe to go ahead and label him a bust.

I hope they do pan out, but I saw wanted a OL that we didn't get that were left on the board. I hope Jerruh proves me wrong with these guys. I agree on the contract side of it, and that was a big reason why they took a lot of lower picks in order to get more money squared away for D Ware.

Yeah, I wanted some of those too and thought it was the number one priority, even over safety. I thought for awhile that they would take Max Unger with the 51st, but the Seahawks took him like two picks before. I think we could move Gurode over to guard and Unger could have started immediately. I think Jerry is looking at it as Davis, Adams, and Columbo all have a few years left on their contract and he'll look at replacing them later. He better hope Kosier doesn't go down again this year. The line wasn't nearly the same after he was hurt.
